20-Year-Old Assam Student Himashri Boro Found Dead After Going Missing From Vivek Express; Mystery Surrounds Final Journey

GUWAHATI, Oct. 8: A 20-year-old student from Assam, Himashri Boro, has been found dead in Andhra Pradesh days after she went missing while travelling aboard the Dibrugarh–Kanyakumari Vivek Express (Train No. 22503) from Visakhapatnam towards Guwahati. Himashri, a student of B. Borooah College, had travelled to Visakhapatnam with an Assamese dance troupe for a programme. She was returning to Assam alone when her family lost contact with her during the train journey. According to reports, Himashri spoke to a friend during the early hours of October 6 and reportedly said that some boys were bullying and misbehaving with her. Her phone subsequently became unreachable. Her family later alerted railway authorities, and her belongings were found in the S2 coach of the train. Her body was subsequently recovered near a railway track in Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh. Railway police and other authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and death. The exact cause of death and what happened between her last known communication and the recovery of her body remain unclear. Fresh CCTV footage has reportedly emerged showing Himashri boarding the train, while another video allegedly recorded during the journey shows her surrounded by several men. Investigators are examining the footage and other evidence to establish what happened to her. The case has raised serious questions about passenger safety, particularly the safety of women travelling alone on long-distance trains. Her family and students have called for a thorough investigation and for those responsible, if identified, to be brought to justice. "The circumstances of Himashri Boro’s death remain under investigation."
